The director of the Petropavlovsk Zoo made it very clear that there was a death sentence on the heads of 3 grizzly cubs which had been brought to him earlier in the month when a hunter had, by accident, killed their mother. The first time we saw them they won our hearts. The Zoo had no money to feed them. We had a carrying box built for their transport that night. The last six months of 1997, we started raising 3 orphaned cubs who are now learning to be independent.
